It begins with the founding of Art and Australia in 1963 and includes histories of such magazines as Art and Australia, Art & Text, Art Monthly Australia, Artlink, Photofile, Craft Australia, Ceramics, Art and Perception and Craft Arts International.
It also includes chapters on regional art magazines, and on photography and craft magazines in Australia, and a critique of the funding of art and craft magazines in these years by the Australian Council.
Mirka Mora's comments. "A magnificent ‘thesis’ that I read ravenously. It is amazing how this history remembers all these magazines and all the people involved who wrote for them. It was an honour to read this book. Magazines are like good soldiers – holding the flag of Art and intrigues and falling down one by one. This book makes good reading and reawakens the memory of many passionate ghosts male and female one remembers from the past in the ‘mosaic’ of Art in Australia."
